History of KnuLease
From the very beginning, Dr. Baird's patients experienced positive benefits: less steroid use and less trips to the veterinarian's office. With the newest formulation of the KnuBar with a ratio of more Omega 3s than Omega 6s [1.45 Omega 3s:1Omega 6s] more patients are using less steroids than ever before.
About fifteen years ago, Dr. Baird could not help but notice the positive role that the KnuBars were playing in helping older dogs move better, interact with other family members better and just plain behave as one would expect an older animal to behave without the aches and pain associated with old age and degenerative joint diseases. It soon became apparent that as many KnuBars were being requested by clients for pain management as for long term or seasonal dermatitis.
Because of the success of the KnuBar in greatly diminishing pain and all the positives that ensued for the patients, Dr. Baird asked Dr. Heinicke to source out the best glucosamine with the best bioavailability that could be found… and the KnuBoost Bar was born.
The KnuBoost Bar started a new chapter in pain management for dogs. Concurrent with the development of the KnuBoost Bar, Nsaids began to become available to veterinarians for use in dogs-only ushering in the newest chapter in pain management for dogs within the mainstream veterinary community. Of course, AMC had been pioneering the development of different pain management protocols for over fifteen years, based upon the use of Knubars and KnuBoost Bars. To date, over one thousand canine patients at AMC have enjoyed a better quality of life thanks to the bars.
In October 2008, Dr. Baird became aware of a new substance that allegedly was a powerful product that could increase joint flexibility and patient mobility in dogs. Dr. Baird was hired by Biova, the sole producers of BioPlex™ [KnuLease™, one and the same] to do the first clinical trial to prove, or disprove, the efficacy of their EMP [eggshell membrane powder] in increasing a dog's joint flexibility and mobility. It was quickly observed by Dr. Baird, even from the start of the clinical trial, that here was a substance that could also significantly relieve pain. And, from this serendipitous beginning began the newest chapter in pain management for dogs, as well as leading to AMC's newest achievement, a Pain Management Protocol for cat!
